Mary Burgers and the Works is the harmony-drenched queer power pop group of your gayest and most hysterical dreams. Dedicated to the kitsch, the camp, the glamorous, described by haters as sounding ‘like musical theatre’ and by lovers as ‘not very much like Steely Dan’, Mary Burgers’ songcraft will prompt the question, ‘What would happen if someone liked Prefab Sprout and the Lemon Twigs a lot but knew almost nothing about music theory?’ And ‘what is this’? And ‘why is this happening’? and ‘How do I get out of here?’

Mary Burgers (vox/guitar/all songs), whatever the hell that is, is backed by the Works- drag sensation Mils Harding Recinos on vocals, Graham Smith on lead guitar, the brilliant Bee Godwin on bass and vocals, and newly joined by percussion sensation and boundaries queen Anna Van on drums- a community of quite serious musicians who get accused of being ‘DIY’ because they play major key songs and are gay and fun to hang out with.

But Mary Burgers and the Works is a legitimate political party (coming soon) band of pop-obsessives who want to bring their joyful, defiant, deeply stupid, immediately infectious pop straight to your ungrateful ears.

Their soon-to-be released EP has flavours of punk, riot grrrrrl, chamber pop, baroque pop, 60s girl group sounds, and may delight any fans of XTC, Elvis Costello, Tchotchke, Chappell Roan, Marina, Fiona Apple, Shoes, and anyone who likes tritones weirdly showing up in pop music.
